As interesting as it might sound, shipping motorcycles to New Zealand is not a ride down the road. It requires proper planning, preparation, and most importantly, it’s a long haul. You might ask, when is the right time to start planning the motorcycle shipment for the 2026 BSA Rally? The answer is: now.
It might sound a bit early to start planning now, but it takes a while to figure out the shipping methods, customs requirements, international regulations, and find the right motorcycle shipping company. Moreover, booking opens early and fills up fast due to high demand. Starting early also saves you from any last-minute hassle in booking accommodation and travel.
In this blog, we’ll cover motorcycle shipping timelines of Get Routed to ensure your bike arrives on time and is ready to ride in the 2026 BSA Rally.
Motorcycle Shipping Timeline For The 2026 BSA Rally
Get Routed has been shipping motorcycles overseas for more than 26 years. Based on our experience and expertise, here’s the ideal timeline for shipping your bike to New Zealand for the 2026 International BSA Rally. The adventure of your lifetime begins here.
Current Date to November 2025: Book Early
Bookings for motorcycle shipment to New Zealand for the 2026 BSA Rally have already begun. Any time from now to November 2025 is the ideal time to book your bike shipment.
It takes 12 to 20 days for your bike to reach New Zealand once you drop your bike off at our depot. The drop-off dates are expected to be early January, so you can receive your bike just in time for the BSA Rally. Bookings aren’t available within the 4 weeks of the shipment date, as we need that time to arrange all the paperwork and logistics.
Considering these timelines, November is the last month to make a booking. Since we ship 10 motorcycles in a container, any bookings beyond this date would require you to book for at least 10 bike shipments, depending on the availability. So, we strongly recommend that you book early due to high demand and limited space.
If you decide to book your shipment at this time, you are required to submit the completed Get Routed Reservation Form and pay a $600 non-refundable deposit to secure your spot. You should also make sure that your bike is within the standard size (2.30 metres or less) to receive the standard shipping rate. The exact pricing is listed in the booking form.
And while you’re at it, ensure your passport is current, your riding gear is in order, and your travel plans are starting to fall into place.
Early January 2026: Bike Drop-Off
Once you’ve made your booking, the next step is to drop your bike at the designated depot on the determined date.
Get Routed ships motorbikes to New Zealand from 3 locations (Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane). Based on your area, you can drop off your bike at any of these 3 depots after finalising it with us. The drop-off is normally four days prior to the container’s departure and is expected to be in early January 2026. However, the exact dates will be determined and communicated to you in November 2025.
However, before dropping off your bike, you need to prepare it according to the regulations to ensure a safe delivery. To avoid any issues during the shipment, make sure to:
- Clean thoroughly to meet New Zealand Quarantine (MPI) requirements.
- Empty the fuel tank. It should contain less than 2 litres of fuel.
- Disconnect the battery and remove all attachments, including panniers.
- Do not lock panniers and compartments.
- Leave your bike unlocked and on neutral.
- Only helmets, riding gear and tools are allowed in the container. No personal items. Pack your gear safely with bubble wrap.
- Arrange all the paperwork and bike insurance for New Zealand.
26 January 2026: Collect in Christchurch
You can collect your bike in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 26 January 2026. Make sure you’re already in New Zealand on that date to collect it from the depot. In case you’re unable to collect your bike on that date, we provide free storage for up to 3 days. After that, you’ll have to pay a flat fee of NZ$50, regardless of the storage duration.
After collecting your bike from the depot, you’ll have to take it to VTNZ, where your temporary tourist registration and Warrant of Fitness (WoF) will be done. Then, you’re free to hit the thrilling routes of the BSA Rally.
6 March 2026: Bike Drop-Off For Return
It’s time to head back after a week full of adventure at the BSA Rally. If you’re shipping your bike for the BSA Rally, you’ll most probably opt for a return shipment. With our thoughtful shipment timeline, you’ll have enough time to ride on the scenic routes of New Zealand and spend some time exploring the country after the event and before returning.
You are required to drop off your bike at the same place from where you received it, no later than 6 March 2026, 10 am. You will be notified once your bike arrives at the Australian depot, from where you can collect it and officially end your 2026 BSA Rally trip.
