STOP PRESS
Due to excessively increased costs in San Francisco we have made the decision to ship the bikes in and out of Portland Oregon.
The decision was made on Thursday 7 February, 2008 in consultation with all the people who have already booked and paid deposits. The owners of one bike have cancelled out due to 2 weeks of uncertainty and the rest have decided to continue with us and fly to Portland Oregon to start their tours of the USA.
Prices quoted in June/July 2007 were requoted by our suppliers in San Francisco (not requested - their decision) in January 2008 and the increases were remarkable. The words "rip off" quickly spring to mind. Anyway we went back to some Portland, Oregon people we started discussions with 2 years ago and they are still keen to do business, but at reasonable rates compared with San Fran suppliers.
Maybe it's the difference between a large metropolis and a smaller town, but what it means to our clients is that we can continue to advertise the prices we published in July 2007, albeit with the proviso that if normally occuring inflationary pressures do force up things like sea freight or other transport costs, those costs will be passed on as per our terms & conditions. Obviously the continuing saga of increasing oil & petrol prices is having an effect on the sea shipping industry, but we don't expect increased cost to be more than 10% of the base price shown on our docs.
Had we stuck with the San Fran increased cost the increases would have been slightly more than $1000 per bike. Under those circumstances Get Routed would have refunded peoples money because we like to think our prices are fair and reasonable and we don't want to be associated with any rip off. We've worked hard to gain our good reputation and are keen to keep it that way.
